The Old Library at Lake Afton ~ a commission

©2014 SusieMorrell ~ Lake Afton Library in Spring 24x30 oil on canvas

Happy Easter everyone!
Sharing a recent commission delivered.  Lake Afton is wonderful this time of year.
A peaceful place to gather, feed the ducks, fish, enjoy a coffee from the nearby Starbucks.
The Old Library on Lake Afton is full of history and one of my favorite landmarks to paint.

30 in 30 Day 25: "Fishing Lure" by Susie Morrell Daily Painting

One thing you may not know about me is I like to fish and love 'all things fishing'.  I have fond memories of fishing with my uncle when I was a little girl.  He would take my brothers and I out on the lake after dinner to give my mom a chance to have some quite time after my father passed away.  We spent many evenings listening to the water lap at the boat and play guessing games as to who would catch the next fish.  I have a collection of old wooden lures and for some reason thought to look at them today.. this on caught my eye... I wonder how many fish were caught by IT?

I just love the colors in this fish that is abundant in the fresh water Michigan lakes.
Vacationing at Hubbard Lake, Michigan as a young girl, we would always go fishing after dinner and come in at dusk with strings of perch. My uncle would clean them and store them in the freezer.  Once we had enough to feed the family, my mother would dredged them in pancake flour and fry them up in a cast iron skillet. We would sit on the screened in porch on warm summer evenings and enjoy the best fish dinner in the world!
